Who is a Good Candidate for Dentures?

If you have fair oral health, you’ll likely qualify for dentures. Almost any adult with missing teeth can serve as a good candidate for the prosthetics. With that said, please note that dentures benefit some people more than others. A patient could potentially benefit more from other tooth replacement options; they may also lack the healthy gums to support dentures.

You’ll need to consult our dentists to confirm your treatment candidacy.  Once you see them, they’ll closely examine your smile to see if dentures would help.

Types of Dentures

Our practice is proud to offer several types of dentures, each with its own distinct strengths. We’ll suggest one of the following kinds to you (if any) after your oral exam:

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are true to their name, only replacing a few of your teeth. They thus “work” by fitting snugly over your gums or by clasping onto nearby “abutments” (i.e., nearby natural teeth). Once securely fastened, they rely on pink acrylic bases and color-matched teeth to blend with your smile.

Full Dentures

A full denture – as you might expect, really – “restores” an entire arch of teeth at once. To that end, the device only relies on suction force for security; it doesn’t depend on abutments. A full denture still fits snugly over the gums, though, so it has something in common with the partial type.

Implant Dentures

An implant denture secures itself with dental implants – small metal posts placed in your jaw. As such, it’s often favored by patients who want a “permanent” solution to their tooth loss. The appliance’s implants don’t slip or fall, so the overall denture remains secure at all times. This device also prevents (and even reverses) cases of facial collapse.

The Benefits of Dentures

If you decide to get dentures from us, you can expect the following benefits:

  • A Gorgeous Grin – Thanks to their high-quality materials, modern dentures look incredibly lifelike and natural. Friends and family seldom notice they aren’t “real” teeth.
  • Better Nutritional Health – Dentures provide you with sturdy replacement teeth, so they help you chew and eat a wider range of food. The result is often a boost to your nutritional health.
  • More Confidence – Because they restore your smile, dentures usually help patients feel more confident. Using them leads to a more self-assured mood and outlook.
  • Affordable Care – Despite costing less than dentures or dental bridges, dentures generally work quite well. Patients with smaller budgets will find them cost-effective.
